Welcome to the Chico Creek Nature Center, the gateway and official information center for Bidwell Park.

Vehicle Access

Bidwell Park starts at Bidwell Mansion in the downtown area of Chico and continues in a northeasterly direction for about ten miles. Vehicular traffic through Lower Park is open on Perterson Memorial Way on the north side of Big Chico Creek and on South Park Drive east of the Chico Creek Nature Center (access via East 8th Street). The paved roads on both sides of Big Chico Creek in Lower Park are usable for wheelchairs and kids learning to ride bicycles. Check the Park Division website for road opening times. South Park Dr. between Caper Acres and Cedar Grove is permanently closed to vehicles.

The Horseshoe Lake fishing pier and the Chico Community Observatory are both accessible. The World of Trees Independence Trail by Cedar Grove is accessible. Because Big Chico Creek flows the length of Bidwell Park, there are only a few places to drive across the park. These crossings are at The Esplanade, Camellia Way Bridge, at the intersection of Mangrove Ave. and Vallombrosa Ave., Hwy 99, and Manzanita Ave.
