In 1888, the Bidwells gave 29 acres to the California State Board of Forestry for a plant introduction and nursery field station. Dozens of the original trees and shrubs still exist around the Nature Center and along the World of Trees Nature Trail. Wes Dempsey, CSU-Chico Botany Professor Emeritus, will lead this leisurely stroll, which will identify and discuss the many remaining specimens (about 65 species) now over 100 years old. These include Burr Oak, Portuguese and Italian Cypresses, Strawberry Tree, Scots and Coulter Pines, and a 4-acre grove of Cork Oaks. This free field trip is geared for adults and is an easy tour that will depart from The Nature Center. Please call us at 891-4671 to pre-register. Heavy rain cancels event.
