Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Bidwell Park

The Nature Center is proud to display this panel exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of our beloved Bidwell Park. Discover some interesting tidbits about Caper Acres, Scout's Island, or the Hooker Oak tree. View the fantastic aerial map of the entire Park, which helps identify specific areas of Lower and Upper Bidwell Park. Find out what type of oak trees grow in the Park and why Big Chico Creek is so important for the Chinook salmon.

This exhibit was commissioned by the Centennial Committee and was originally on display at The Chico Museum in 2005.

Nature's Insects

A photographic exhibit by Wayne Burkett

Wayne Burkett’s pictorial exhibition offers us a glimpse into the minuscule world of insects and showcases his artistic talent. At close range, the vivid colors and intricate body details of each specimen are a marvel to look at. Wayne used both a regular print camera and a digital camera to capture these images. Some of his pictures, like the common ant, were photographed at ten times their real-life size.

About the Artist

Wayne Burkett's interest in photography was sparked in the mid 1950's. That interest became a life long passion. In the 1980's he started to take his craft more seriously and enrolled in photography classes at El Camino College in Torrance, California. Now retired Wayne has lived here in Chico for the last 14 years. He is a member of the International Freelance Photographers Organization.
